Axios HQ Privacy Notice

Last updated: April 25, 2025

Interim notice. Smart Brevity is operated by Axios HQ Inc., and this is Axios HQ's policy, applied to smartbrevity.com. A Smart Brevity version is being written now and will replace it.

This Privacy Notice explains how Axios HQ Inc. (“Axios HQ” or “we”) collects and uses personal information about Consumers like you.

In this Privacy Notice, the term “Consumers” means individuals whose personal information we collect and use independently and for our own business purposes. This includes people who visit our marketing website at www.smartbrevity.com (the “Marketing Site”), who engage with us on social media, or who we may have interacted with at a live event, like a conference. It may also include people who haven’t engaged with us directly, but who we think might be interested in someday buying our services.

Situational Awareness:

  • This Privacy Notice does not describe how we handle personal information and personal data belonging to our customers (like personal data processed through the Axios HQ SaaS platform.)
  • Details about how we process customer personal information or personal data can be found in the HQ Privacy Policy located at trust.axioshq.com.

We might update this Privacy Notice from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last Updated” data above. Changes to this Privacy Notice become effective when posted.

1 big thing: How Axios HQ treats your data

We want to give you and other Consumers (past, present, and future) an exceptional experience. Knowing certain things about our Consumers can help us better understand and serve you. But we are committed to using your data in a way that is respectful of your privacy.

First, how do we get Consumer personal information?

  • When you request information about Axios HQ through our Site or over email, we collect the information you provide, such as your contact information, company name, and the content of the communication.
  • When you complete a survey online or via email, we collect your contact information, demographic information, professional information, and other information you provide.
  • When you visit our Marketing Site, we use cookies, pixel tags, and other technology to understand how you interact with our website. This includes information like what type of device you're using and which links you click.
  • When you engage with us on social media, we may receive information from the social media platform in accordance with their own privacy notices.
  • When you open one of our emails, we use cookies, pixel tags, and other technology to see that the email was opened and what links were clicked. If you provide feedback about the email, we collect that information too.
  • When you attend a conference, symposium, or another event where Axios HQ is a vendor or sponsor, we may get information about you from the event organizer or from you directly.
  • When you sign up for a virtual event or webinar with Axios HQ, Axios HQ or the other event sponsors may collect and exchange your registration information.
  • When you purchase a subscription to Axios HQ online (if available), we will collect and use your contact information necessary to process the purchase and enable your account.
  • We sometimes get information from Axios Media Inc. about Axios newsletter subscribers who might be interested in learning more about Axios HQ.
  • We may get information from third-party sources, such as public directories and data providers. For example, if you request information about Axios HQ, we may ask a data provider to tell us more about you. We may also ask data providers for information about professionals who haven't engaged with us but might be interested in learning about Axios HQ services.
  • We may also collect information about you in ways we explain at the collection point.

Here are some of the key ways Axios HQ uses Consumer personal information:

  • We respond to your inquiries and send you the information you request or that we think might be relevant to you.
  • We aggregate and anonymize your data (i.e., remove your name and email address from your information and combine it with other users' information) to discover statistical patterns about how our Marketing Site is used and the impacts of our social media presence. This helps us improve our outreach to potential buyers.
  • We use cookies, pixels, tags, and other tracking technologies to better understand how you use our website. They help us answer questions like “Which pages on our Marketing Site are users visiting most?” “How often are individual users visiting our Marketing Site?” and “How do people find our Marketing Site?”
  • We market our services to you based on the information you provide, the information we collect via cookies and other technologies, and information about you we may get from third-party sources, like data providers.
  • We partner with third-party platforms to market our services to you. For example, we may use LinkedIn advertising tools to help us identify LinkedIn users who might be interested in our services and to serve them ads on the LinkedIn platform. When we do this, LinkedIn does not share your personal information with us.
  • We may use and share your personal information as part of a transaction (like a merger) or bankruptcy, to keep the website safe and secure, and in connection with legal issues.
  • We process your payments when you buy services online (if applicable). We do this by the technology of a secure, third-party payment processor (like Stripe or Square) into the Marketing Site, to help process your payments.
  • We may use your information in other ways we explain at the point of collection, or in situations where we have obtained your express consent.

Here are some things Axios HQ does NOT do:

  • We don’t collect (or knowingly allow our customers to provide us with) any protected health information, biometric identification data, financial account information with passwords, government-issued identifiers like social security numbers, or other personal information that is legally considered sensitive or “high risk.”
  • We don't knowingly collect (or allow our customers to knowingly provide) personal data from anyone under the age of 16.
  • We don’t collect or process credit card information unless you purchase services from us through our Marketing Site. If you do, your credit card information (card number, security code, etc.) is processed through a third-party payment processor (like Stripe) and we do not have access to that data.
  • We don’t engage in any form of automated profiling or decision making that would produce a legal or similarly significant effect, or that might have a material and negative impact on your freedoms or opportunities.

Go deeper: International Data Protection Laws.

Axios HQ is headquartered in the United States and our services are hosted on secure, U.S.-based infrastructure. While our primary market is the United States, we also support customers based in the United Kingdom, Canada and European Union.

For clients subject to the UK or EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Axios HQ acts as a data processor and includes the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) in our customer agreements. These clauses provide the legal basis for the transfer of personal data from the UK/EU to the U.S. in compliance with GDPR.

We are committed to ensuring appropriate safeguards are in place for all international data transfers, and our team is available to support client-specific privacy and compliance reviews.

  • Yes, but, when Axios HQ processes personal data on behalf of a customer, we do so strictly for the customer’s business purposes. In that context, the customer is the “controller,” while Axios HQ is the “processor” (as such terms are defined under International Data Protection Laws).
  • When acting as a processor, Axios HQ complies with all International Data Protection Laws applicable to its processing activities on behalf of customer controllers. Additional information can be found in our Privacy Policy available at trust.axioshq.com.
  • If you believe we are processing your personal data on behalf of an Axios HQ customer, you can submit a data subject rights request to Axios HQ by emailing privacy@axioshq.com. We will promptly forward your request on to the appropriate customer controller so that they can respond.

Go deeper: US Privacy Laws

Many states (including California, Virginia, Colorado, and others) have passed laws giving their consumers special data privacy rights (“U.S. Privacy Laws”). However, Axios HQ does not currently meet the minimum thresholds required to fall under the scope of any U.S. Privacy Laws when acting as an independent business. Additionally, most U.S. Privacy Laws do not apply to personal information collected in a business-to-business context.

Therefore, Axios HQ is not currently required to comply with U.S. Privacy Laws when handling Consumer personal information for our own business purposes.

  • Yes, but, when Axios HQ processes personal information on behalf of a customer, we do so strictly for their business purposes. In that context, the customer is the ‘“business” or “controller,” while Axios HQ is the “service provider” or “processor” (as such terms are defined under U.S. Privacy Laws).
  • When acting as a processor or service provider, Axios HQ complies with all U.S. Privacy Laws applicable to its processing on behalf of customer businesses/controllers. Additional information can be found in our Privacy Policy available at trust.axioshq.com.
  • If you believe we are processing your personal information on behalf of an Axios HQ customer, you can submit a data subject rights request to Axios HQ by emailing privacy@axioshq.com. We will promptly forward your request on to the appropriate customer controller so that they can respond.

Consumers still have choices.

If we are processing your information as a Consumer for our own business purposes, you still have ways to control what data you share with us and how it can be used:

  • You can opt out of any newsletter or promotional email we send by clicking "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of the email (be aware that we can still send you transactional emails, such as in response to a request through our Marketing Site or in connection with your customer account).
  • If you don't want your browser to accept cookies, you can change your browser settings (learn more here) or download an ad blocker browser extension or app.
  • You may be able to change your mobile device settings to limit the use of the advertising ID associated with your mobile device for interest-based advertising purposes.
  • Many third-party platforms (like Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn) offer features that let you opt out of certain uses of your information for interest-based advertising.
  • You can also use these third-party opt-out options to limit the use of your interest-based advertising by participating companies: Digital Advertising Alliance and Network Advertising Initiative.

Stay Informed: If you have any questions or concerns about how Axios HQ handles your data, you can contact us at privacy@axioshq.com or by writing to Axios HQ Inc., 3100 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 1300, Arlington VA 22201.

Analytics and visitor identification on smartbrevity.com

This section is not part of Axios HQ's Privacy Notice. It was written for this site, and it lists what actually runs here as of September 12, 2026.

  • HubSpot. Analytics, forms, live chat and an advertising pixel, running in Axios HQ's HubSpot account. HubSpot sets cookies named __hstc, hubspotutk, __hssrc and __hssc, records which pages you visit including each move between pages, and stores whatever you enter on a form here.
  • The link between your browsing and your name. Every form on this site sends HubSpot the visitor token from the hubspotutk cookie. That token is what connects the pages you looked at to the name and email address you type in, including pages you visited before you had given us either.
  • LinkedIn, Google Ads and Meta. HubSpot's advertising pixel loads all three. They are switched on in HubSpot's settings rather than in this site's code. They set _gcl_au (Google), _fbp and _fbc (Meta) and LinkedIn's own identifiers, and they are used to show you advertising and to measure it.
  • RB2B. RB2B, operated by GetEmails, LLC, is a registered data broker that tries to identify individual visitors to this site. For some visitors in the United States it gives us a name, job title, company, LinkedIn profile and work email address without you entering anything. For visitors outside the United States it identifies the company rather than the person. It sets cookies beginning _reb2b, one of which holds a location worked out from your IP address, including city, region, postal code and internet provider, stored in plain text. RB2B states its identification is about 90% accurate, which means some of it is wrong. You can tell RB2B to stop identifying you, across every website that uses it, at app.retention.com/optout.
  • ChiliPiper. Meeting booking. When you submit the form on the contact page, your answers are passed to ChiliPiper so it can offer you a time with the right person.
  • The Simplify prompt pack. When you copy a prompt or open it in an AI assistant, this site tells HubSpot which prompt it was, by title, group and position in the list. It does not send the prompt's text or anything you typed. If you later fill in the unlock form, those earlier events attach to your contact record.
  • Google Analytics 4. Not running on this site as of September 12, 2026. It is being set up, with consent defaults that vary by the visitor's region. This page will describe it once it is live.
  • Google Fonts. Every page loads fonts from Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address.

There is no cookie banner on this site as of September 12, 2026, so everything listed above loads when the page loads. Until there is one, the controls available to you are your browser's own settings, the RB2B opt-out above, and the third-party advertising opt-outs listed earlier in this notice.
